What is Pilates?
Pilates is a form of exercise primarily focusing on the body’s core muscles. Pilates aims to achieve physical balance, flexibility, and strength through systematic practice. Here are the main characteristics of Pilates:
- Focus on core muscles: Pilates primarily works on the abdominal, back, and gluteal muscles to enhance the body’s stability and control.
- Emphasis on breath control: Pilates places great importance on breathing, requiring practitioners to maintain proper breathing techniques during the exercises.
- Pursuit of mind-body balance: Pilates not only focuses on the body’s coordination and flexibility but also emphasizes mental relaxation and psychological well-being.
- Emphasis on proper posture: Pilates emphasizes the importance of performing exercises with correct form to prevent injury and maximize the benefits.
- Suitable for all age groups: Pilates is a gentle and safe form of exercise that can be practiced by people of all age groups.
Introduction to Pilates Equipment
Reformer
The Pilates Reformer is designed primarily through the resistance and assist of springs, and a movable platform connected to the springs, making it a multi-functional Pilates equipment. The clever use of springs and the movable platform often allows students to better feel the power of core-centric control, and continuously challenge their core control, stability, and coordination.
By re-establishing core control, spinal stability, normal range of motion in the spine and pelvis, and control of the shoulders and neck, the Reformer is widely used for low back pain. In addition to core training, the Reformer can also be used to train the upper limbs, lower limbs, balance, and proprioception, allowing the limbs to move smoothly along extended lines, providing students with a firm physique and beautiful body lines.
Cadillac
The Cadillac can be considered the Pilates equipment with the most functions for training injured individuals. Its structure consists of a bed base with an overhead rectangular frame. The frame has numerous small rings that can be used to suspend springs and other attachments. The Cadillac has a suspended trapeze frame, which is the origin of its name. Additionally, one side of the Cadillac has a “U”-shaped push-pull bar, which is an excellent tool for training the scapula, shoulder girdle, upper limbs, and for trunk stabilization and coordination exercises.
The Cadillac primarily utilizes springs for a variety of training. Depending on the placement of the springs, different training purposes and effects can be achieved. The main training focuses include the core, lower limbs, shoulder girdle, and balance and coordination abilities.
Ladder Barrel
The Ladder Barrel, as the name suggests, has a stair-like shape on one side and a semi-cylindrical barrel shape on the other. The curved, barrel-shaped side of the Ladder Barrel is very suitable for spinal extension and trunk control training.
For spinal extension and training, it can include forward flexion, backward extension, or lateral flexion. In addition, abdominal or back muscle strength training can also be done on the barrel, achieving a strengthening effect. The Ladder Barrel can be adjusted in distance according to the height of each individual.
Course Category
Day 1 Pilates courses are primarily offered in the following two formats:
Private Training:
- This is an individual training session with a Pilates instructor.
- The instructor can provide personalized attention and tailor the program to the specific needs and goals of the client.
- Private sessions allow for more in-depth instruction, form correction, and progression of the exercises.
- This format is ideal for beginners, individuals with specific injuries or limitations, or those who prefer a highly personalized approach.
- The client receives undivided attention from the instructor throughout the session.
Small Group Classes:
- These are group Pilates classes with a relatively small number of participants.
- Compared to larger classes, the instructor can provide more individualized attention.
- The small class size allows the instructor to better monitor the form and adjustments for each participant.
- Participants can benefit from the energy and motivation of working out in a small group setting.
- The cost per session is generally lower than private sessions, making it more affordable.
- Small group classes cater to those who enjoy the group exercise environment but still desire personal guidance.
- The instructor can provide variations and progressions to challenge participants at different skill levels within the same class.
